Gorno and Tanis Close the Book as the Winningest Doubles Tandem in MHSAA History!

What a run it's been for our own Holland Christian seniors Michael Gorno and Graham Tanis, who finished their four years together at 106-6 — the winningest doubles tandem in MHSAA history. Think about that number for a second: 106 wins, and only six losses across a whole high school career. That's not a hot stretch. That's a legacy. The story reads like a boxing arc. As freshmen they went 29-2 at No. 3 doubles and reached the Division 4 semifinals. As sophomores they went 31-2 and won the Finals championship the same year Holland Christian captured a Division 4 team title. Then came the move to Division 3 two years ago, a junior season where they entered the Finals unbeaten only to be upset, and Gorno's torn hip flexor this past season while slated to play No. 1 singles. This time the pair fell in straight sets at No. 1 doubles to eventual champion Detroit Country Day in the semifinals, as Holland Christian finished third for the second straight year behind Country Day and Cranbrook Kingswood. Coached by Steve Gorno, Michael's own father, these two go out as all-time greats.
