What a stretch across our High School fields and gyms, and it starts with Kingsley — the Division 2 No. 3 squad finished 5-0 to win its invitational, and Jenna Middleton reached 2,000 career kills doing it. That is a milestone you frame on the wall forever. The volleyball ran deep and it ran good: Onekama, our Division 4 No. 10 bunch, won all 12 sets and defeated Mason County Eastern in the final, while Macomb Lutheran North went 5-0 to down Fraser and take the Fraser Tournament. Fenton dropped the first set to Linden and then won the next three — that is the answer of a team that refuses to blink. On the links, Kayla Montcalm carded a school record to lead Bay City Western to the Bay County team title, and Cheboygan won its invitational behind medalist Elise Markham. And in soccer, Frankenmuth, Division 3 No. 12, blanked No. 8 Alma 1-0 in the Tri-Valley Conference Red. Grand Haven, our Division 1 No. 7, won its invitational for the third-straight season.
