There's a whole world behind every whistle at our high school games, and MHSAA is opening the door wider than ever for the folks who make Friday nights run. Under Director of Officials Sam Davis, the association has built out a real pipeline for anyone who's ever thought about picking up the stripes. The headliner for us is the Student Legacy Officials Program, which lets high school students learn the craft under the guidance, supervision and mentorship of a veteran MHSAA official — you learn from someone who's been in the fire. Add the Officials Guidebook and Policy Manual that lays out everything you need to know, and the path in has never been clearer. There's plenty to chew on beyond that: weekly features like What's My Why telling officials' stories in their own words, Be the Referee to test yourself on the tough calls, and the HEROES Nomination program honoring the ones who gave their careers to Michigan athletics. Officiate Michigan Day 2026 has photos, a program, and a full schedule ready to go.
