The September 3 high school football slate across our state is loaded, but two results already landed in the books the hard way. Coldwater got the nod over Richland Gull Lake, 1-0 by forfeit, and Livonia Clarenceville took its own 1-0 forfeit win over Center Line Prep Academy. Not the way anybody wants to open the notebook, but a win in the standings is a win in the standings. The rest of the night carries the flavor that makes our Friday football special. Adrian Madison hosts Dundee on Parent Night, Bark River-Harris welcomes Gwinn for Parents Night, and Carleton Airport takes on Monroe Jefferson with a Military Appreciation Night — the kind of touch that reminds you what these games mean to a community. A handful of scores are still pending as we wait for the final word: Cranbrook Kingswood and Detroit Loyola, Ferndale and Harper Woods, Flint New Standard Academy and Genesee, and University Liggett against Mount Clemens all sit in submit-score status. Kickoffs range from 4:00 to 7:00 across the board.
