What a weekend for our Grand Rapids West Catholic squad, as they captured their very first team Finals championship over at Ferris State University's Katke Golf Course! They fired a first-round 314 Friday to grab a five-stroke lead, and then, obviously with the pressure mounting, they came back Saturday with a gritty 311 over the final 18 holes for a two-day total of 625 strokes! Coach Daniel Karamol's crew has been working since November, and it paid off in a big way as Traverse City St. Francis finished second at 638! Owen Kotowski carded 78-75 for a 153 and heads to Davenport University, while Alex Bartish's 74-80 for 154 leads him to Calvin College — what golfers and what students! And don't sleep on Elk Rapids sophomore Blake Springstead, who fired back-to-back 73s for a 146 to grab individual medalist honors after missing state by a single stroke as a freshman! These kids battled, and we couldn't be prouder of our Michigan high schoolers!
