Guardians Walk Off Our Tigers 3-2 in 10, Take the Series in Cleveland

It was the kind of series that leaves a mark, and Sunday afternoon in Cleveland was the final twist of the knife: the Guardians walked off our Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings at Progressive Field, their third walk-off in a four-game set. Daniel Schneemann singled home rookie Angel Genao from third to end it, after Patrick Bailey opened the 10th with a single off Kyle Finnegan, who falls to 3-1. The frustrating part is Cleveland never led until that last swing. Riley Greene put us up 2-0 in the first with a two-run double, and Jackon Jobe kept it close before Brayan Rocchio tied it in the fifth with his 13th homer to right. Gavin Williams was the difference, striking out 11 over six innings — his 11th double-digit strikeout game this season, most in the majors. We drop to 65-78 and 9.5 back, and the series goes to the Guardians 3-1. Now we regroup: Troy Melton, 7-4 with a 2.20 ERA, opens a three-game set with Minnesota coming to Detroit at Comerica Labor Day with a 3:10pm first pitch. There's still baseball to play.
