Well, our captain is coming home after all — Dylan Larkin will report to training camp in Detroit next week, despite the trade request that went public back in July. The hometown kid from Waterford, the Michigan man drafted first-round in 2014, isn't walking out the door just yet. But make no mistake, this is a franchise in flux. Shortly after that request surfaced, the Red Wings announced Steve Yzerman would no longer be general manager after taking the reins in 2019, and now a search firm is running interviews for his replacement. On top of that, the team says it will open the season without a captain — Larkin had worn the C since 2021. The man ranks 10th in franchise history in both goals (276) and points (643), and he just helped Team USA win its first Olympic gold since 1980, killing penalties at a flawless 18-for-18 in Milan. The Minnesota Wild have come calling. Detroit hasn't seen the playoffs in a decade. So what now? Keep him or move him? For now, he's ours, and he's in the room.
