What a way to kick off the season, and it happened in front of our own crowd: the Lions opened the regular season by hosting the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field and walked off with a 31-30 overtime victory. It's the first time we've ever hosted the Saints to start a year, and Detroit made sure it was one to remember. The story wasn't just Jared Goff and the offense — it was the young guys stepping up in a big way. Blake Miller, who set the Clemson record for career snaps at 3,778 while starting 54 games, made his first career start at right tackle against a Saints defense that racked up 45 sacks last season, top 10 in the whole league. And that unit got by without Cameron Jordan (hamstring), who led New Orleans in sacks and tackles for loss a year ago. Add in Chuck Clark and Avonte Maddox holding down the safety spots with Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch on IR, and this was a full-team win.
