What a way to come out of the bye, as the Lions edged the Green Bay Packers 20-17 on a Jake Bates field goal as time expired, opening NFC North play with the kind of nerve that leaves you pacing the living room. It wasn't clean — we survived blown opportunities all afternoon — but the scoreboard is the scoreboard, and we found a way. DJ Wonnum blocked a kick, Brian Branch returned to log an interception in the divisional win, and Dan Campbell went for it on fourth down because of course he did — that is who we are. We even got the scare when Jahmyr Gibbs went down late, and the word is he's fine. Breathe easy on that one. And here's the real payoff: the Lions are no longer last place in the division, sitting right in the thick of the NFC Wild Card standings as we turn to a Week 8 date with the Vikings. The grind is working.
