This is the story none of us wanted to write: the Red Wings have suspended star forward Dylan Larkin without pay after the 30-year-old Michigan native told the team he no longer wanted to play for the organization. A kid drafted in the first round back in 2014, 12 years in the only jersey he's ever worn — and now he's forfeiting $41,000 a day while interim GM Shawn Horcoff and the front office explore trade options. The cracks showed early. Larkin requested a trade in June, reported to camp stripped of his captaincy, and was booed by our own fans at Little Caesars Arena during that home-opening loss Oct. 2 to the Rangers. He met with agents Pat Brisson and Matt Williams on Wednesday evening, and the list of destinations has grown from three teams to 10. Make no mistake: this is a Winged Wheel lifer with a no-trade clause, six 30-goal seasons, Olympic gold in February, two goals and six points through 10 games. However it ends, it's a sad chapter for a hometown kid.
