Out in Pasadena on Saturday, the Spartans hung tough early — Kayd Coffman, making his first career start, hit Keshawn Williams for a 14-yard touchdown in the opening quarter and MSU actually led. Then the floor gave out. No. 9 UCLA stormed back and outscored the Spartans 28-3 the rest of the way, winning 28-10 and locking up its first 7-0 start since 2005. The middle of this one was brutal: UCLA outgained Michigan State 280-13 across the second and third quarters, and 443-156 on the day. Jaivian Thomas tied it, Wayne Knight plunged in for the lead, and Ty Dieffenbach's 63-yard strike to Brian Rowe Jr. put it out of reach early in the third. Injuries keep piling up, too. Already without our top two backs, we lost Marvis Parrish on the third play and Ben Roberts a week after his career outing against Northwestern. That drops us to 2-6, 0-5 in the Big Ten, and this is six losses in a row. A bye comes first, then it's the one that matters — rival Michigan on Nov. 7.
