The Pat Fitzgerald era begins this Friday, Sept. 4, when MSU welcomes a Toledo squad into Spartan Stadium for an 8:05 p.m. ET kickoff on FS1, and the timing could not feel more like home — this marks the 12th time in the past 16 years we open on a Friday night in East Lansing, and we have not lost one of those yet, sitting a perfect 11-0. Fitzgerald, named our 27th head coach on Dec. 1, 2025, arrives with 110 wins from 17 seasons at Northwestern, two Big Ten West titles, and the 2018 Big Ten Coach of the Year honor in his pocket. Now he opens our 130th season of football with a roster carrying 62 newcomers and six team captains — the most on a Spartan team since 1998. So what should we expect against a program we have only met once? That lone previous meeting was Nov. 8, 1925, a 58-0 Homecoming rout, so the all-time series reads MSU 1-0. Redshirt sophomore Alessio Milivojevic returns under center after seven touchdowns in four late starts, and Jordan Hall anchors a defense off an 88-tackle season.
