MSU needed this one, Spartan fans, and our No. 2 Michigan State hockey team found a way, edging New Hampshire 2-1 at the Whittemore Center Arena on Saturday, October 24 to salvage a series split in Durham. Freshman Mason West got us on the board with his first career goal at 17:23 of the second — Owen West started it, Tommi Mannisto dropped it off for Jimmy Clark, and the puck found the net. Sophomore Anthony Romani made it 2-0 with his team-leading fifth of the season at 5:24 of the third, firing home on the man advantage with Cullen Potter screening. New Hampshire answered at 9:18 to pull within one, and from there it was all about the kid in net. Freshman Joshua Ravensbergen was the story, standing tall for 38 saves while we were outshot 39-23. Across the weekend he stopped 71 of 73 — a .973 clip and a Big Ten Third Star of the Week nod. That is goaltending that wins you road games. The Spartans sit 4-1-0 with No. 3 North Dakota coming to town October 31.
