The wait is nearly over, folks: our No. 16 Wolverines — ranked 16th in both the AFCA Coaches Poll and the AP media poll — open the 2026 campaign at Michigan Stadium against Western Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 5, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock. Night games are our house, and the numbers say so: we're 11-1 after dark since the start of 2023 and 2-0 in home openers at night. This is the ninth meeting in a series that dates all the way back to 1917, and Michigan has never lost it — 8-0 all-time against the Broncos, and 37-1 against the Mid-American Conference for good measure. WMU is no pushover after 10 wins in 2025, but history is squarely on our side. All eyes fall on sophomore captain Bryce Underwood, who threw for 2,428 yards as a freshman — second only to Chad Henne's 2004 mark — and on Rod Moore, the first-ever three-time captain in program history. The Wolverine Walk steps off near Crisler Center at approximately 5:15 p.m., with a Navy Super Hornets flyover to come.
